General

We have 3 models: the L1, L2 and L4. They fit different types of fatbike. Check the product info to see which fatbikes each Lockboss model fits.

Not sure, or is your model not listed? Just contact us.

Sometimes a Lockboss does fit your fatbike model, for example because your model is sold under a different brand name. Get in touch with us to check! Good to know: we're also busy developing new Lockboss models, so stay tuned...

All orders placed with Lockboss are delivered within two business days of receiving your order confirmation.

A number of shops already have Lockboss locks in stock. Ask your own dealer whether they can supply a Lockboss. If not, they can contact us and install a Lockboss on your bike the next day.

No, unfortunately not! But black goes with everything, right? :-)

Yes, you can simply charge your battery while the Lockboss is on. You don't need to remove the lock. The steel frame of the Lockboss has an opening that gives access to your battery's charging port, so you can plug in the charger directly without taking anything apart. Your battery stays safely locked to your fatbike while charging. Handy and safe: even on the charger, your battery stays bolted to your frame.

Yes, the Lockboss is made to stay on your fatbike outdoors permanently. The lock is built from robust, rust-resistant coated steel and is 100% designed and made in the Netherlands to high quality standards. Because the Lockboss stays mounted on your frame (even when your fatbike is out in all weathers), it's built for daily use. Long-term tip: check now and then that the screws are still tight, and your security will stay in top shape for years.

No, the Lockboss doesn't damage your frame or paint. For installation you use the existing screw holes of your battery mount: you unscrew the original screws of the battery back plate and the wiring box and replace them with the screws supplied with the Lockboss. So there's no drilling and no extra holes in your frame. The Lockboss fits neatly in the designated spot behind your frame, so your fatbike keeps its look.

Yes, you simply leave the Lockboss on while you ride. The lock is designed to stay mounted permanently. If the locking plate ever rattles against the frame while riding, you can easily fix it with the supplied anti-rattle rubber pad that you stick between the parts. Then you ride on quietly and worry-free, with your battery firmly locked to your fatbike.

Warranty & Returns

Sorry to hear you're not happy! As part of our service, you can return your Lockboss free of charge if you don't like it. For more information and instructions, see our return policy.

Yes, you get a 1-year warranty. If something breaks during that time, you're entitled to a replacement. In that case, contact us at info@lockboss.nl.

Installation

Installing the Lockboss is easy! For detailed instructions, see the installation guide.

You may have mounted it the wrong way round. The angled side arms with the holes should be at the top of the bike. Occasionally the stickers are applied the wrong way round, which makes you mount the Lockboss upside down.

Fatbike battery theft

A fatbike battery lock is a security device that fixes your fatbike's battery to the frame, so the battery can't be stolen. The Lockboss uses a steel construction that you mount with four screws onto the fixed mounting points of your fatbike. Once your battery is in place, you lock it with two locking plates and the supplied Abus padlocks: the battery is then "bolted down" and can't be removed. This turns an easy-to-steal loose part into a fixed, secured part of your bike.

Fatbike batteries are often stolen because they are worth a lot of money, small and easy to carry, and easy to resell as a loose part. A new fatbike battery easily costs more than €400, and thieves sell stolen batteries as a loose part or use them to rebuild dismantled bikes. According to analyses of police figures, criminals are also increasingly targeting loose parts such as batteries and displays rather than the whole bike. The combination of high value, small size and anonymous resale makes the battery an attractive target. (source: including BeveiligingNieuws based on police data)

Theft of loose bike parts such as batteries has risen sharply in the Netherlands: from about 15,000 registered cases in 2021 to around 33,000 in 2025. That is according to an analysis of police figures reported by BeveiligingNieuws; the real number is probably higher, as many thefts are never reported.

A new fatbike battery usually costs between €250 and €600 each time, depending on the battery model. For popular models such as the Ouxi V8, V20 and H9 (usually 48V with 15 to 17.5 Ah) you often pay around €250 to €500; batteries with a higher capacity or from premium e-bike brands can cost up to €800 to €900. Because the battery is one of the most expensive parts of your fatbike, having it stolen is a serious expense. Especially if it's stolen more than once. That's exactly why it pays to protect it properly from day one.

The best way to prevent your fatbike battery from being stolen is to physically fix it to your frame with a battery lock, such as the Lockboss. That way the battery can't be clicked loose or "kicked out" and taken away in a few seconds.

Only one thing really works against battery theft: making sure the battery can't be removed. With a fixed battery lock like the Lockboss, the battery is locked to the frame and can't be taken out, so a thief can't simply walk off with it.

Yes, an unprotected fatbike battery is unfortunately easy to steal. On most fatbikes the battery is held by a simple standard lock or a clip, which experienced thieves open within seconds - or they simply kick the battery out of its holder. Because the battery is small, valuable and quick to sell, it's a matter of seconds for thieves. A fixed battery lock like the Lockboss makes that impossible: the battery is bolted to your frame with four screws and can't be removed without tools.

Secure your fatbike battery with the right Lockboss

The difference is in what is secured: a frame lock blocks the rear wheel so the bike can't be ridden away, while a battery lock specifically fixes the battery to the frame. So a frame lock (or ring lock) doesn't protect your battery, which can still be taken out. A battery lock like the Lockboss focuses on the most stolen loose part: your battery. For complete protection, combine both, plus a chain lock to secure your fatbike to a fixed object. By the way, the Lockboss is sometimes called a "frame lock for your battery", because it anchors the battery to the frame.

Yes, you can lock a fatbike battery to the frame with a battery lock such as the Lockboss. The Lockboss is mounted with four screws onto the existing mounting points of your fatbike and locks the battery with two locking plates and Abus padlocks. The lock is designed to be non-removable, so the battery stays firmly attached to the frame and can't be taken without your consent. There are currently three models (L1, L2 and L4) for the best-known fatbikes, so there's a matching solution for almost every popular model.

The best way to secure your fatbike battery is to fix it physically and non-removably to your frame with a dedicated battery lock. A simple standard lock or just a frame lock isn't enough, because the battery can still be removed. With the Lockboss, your battery is fixed to your frame with four screws and can't be removed without tools. We supply an ABUS padlock to lock your Lockboss, because ABUS makes the best padlocks. For optimal protection, combine this with an ART-certified lock for the whole bike and, for an expensive fatbike, a GPS tracker.

The best battery lock for a fatbike is one that fits your model exactly and fixes the battery non-removably, like the Lockboss, which has been developed specifically for each type of fatbike. Not sure which model you need? Check the product page or contact Lockboss.

At lockboss.nl you always have the complete range and the newest models at hand.

Yes, a Lockboss is usually more than worth it: for €109.95 you protect a battery that costs €250-600 to replace if stolen (each time). Prevent one theft and the lock has more than paid for itself, not to mention the hassle of reporting the theft, a bike you can't ride for a while and a possible insurance excess. For anyone who regularly parks their fatbike outside, that's a small price for great peace of mind.

Fatbike batteries and insurance

Theft of a battery on its own is usually not insured. Limited theft cover or your home contents insurance often doesn't cover loose parts, or only partly. On top of that, some insurers will barely insure a fatbike anymore: because of the high theft figures, ANWB among others has limited its offer for fatbikes, and other providers only accept fatbikes with strict security requirements. In short: don't blindly rely on your insurance. A battery lock like the Lockboss prevents the theft in the first place. That's cheaper and less hassle than a claim, and you never have to deal with depreciation or a rejected payout.
